@f02@t4@cTHE EUROCHARTS: FLASH-BACK
@t5@f00Written by Conquest and Surfer
@t5@f00When CRUSADERS released their very
first issue of Official Eurocharts Top
Ten,they probably didn't guess that it
would become so popular among the
Amiga scene.That happened in November
1989 and since this time,the
Eurocharts have kept their spirit
whereas the lay out and design
constantly developed. The chart
concept was devised,as the scene was
growing up,and as many demos were
showing up.CRUSADERS made the first
one and whatever people think about
it,it is probably the most important
serial production released on amiga,
@^
because of its prestige! They always
reflected quite nearly the state of
mind of the scene,that's to say that
during 1990 the crack groups dominated
them,and that one year later demo
groups outclassed them.Actually it was
also due to the friendship
movement,which one started to cover
the whole scene at the end of 1990.
Coming back to this period,you could
see in the charts the best,but also
the worst rankings showing that there
was hard competitions between groups
and sometimes wars.BBS were also
something new in the scene,as many of
them were born during this time.They
of course had their place in the

@t5@f00Eurocharts! At the middle of
1990,CRUSADERS probably understood how
popular their charts became.So they
made it more seriously improving code
and design. It was maybe the
beginning of a very professional
work,and it also means the beginning
of a full-time production. The worst
charts dealing with the Amiga
disappeared,and the product started to
be a kind of mag treating about the
scene during the last two months. At
the end of 1990,many demos saw the
daylight and the Eurocharts were
coming even closer to the scene:the
EURONEWS were born. CRUSADERS also
got the good idea to include a scene
slide show with famous dudes like
themselves and with anybody who wanted
to see his face in the EUROCHARTS.The
Gallery probably made them more
@^
@t5@f00famous! Something important happened
too in the eighth issue,seeing that
they splitted the demo charts,and made
two different gradings with one part
demos and trackloaded demos.The
trackmo was more fashionable and was
coming from everywhere.By the way,it
never means quality,just amount of
work! The design was a bit enhanced
during 1991.As the EUROCHARTS were now
a major production,CRUSADERS wanted to
show their main talents.It was of
course, pleasant to listen to new
modules from Dr Awesome and Fleshbrain
and to discover new gfx from Bustman
and Intec,while reading them. Till
the last 14th issue,there were no big
changes except that Dr Awesome left
CRUSADERS and stopped composing Amiga
music.It is maybe a reason why the
group started to be fed up with their

@t5@f00production. The EUROCHARTS were also
famous because of the problems that
they created. Too many people were
jealous when discovering the
results,and they obviously took them
too seriously.Yet,CRUSADERS never
forget to list the voters and moreover
to underline the number of
them.Anybody can understand that a 400
voters average does not reflect that
much the opinion of the scene. But as
everywhere,jerks aren't missing.So
they accused the group of cheating. I
wonder why CRUSADERS will get interest
in faking the charts as they haven't
been rated since the third
issue!Anyway,there was probably some
cheating,but the authors couldn't help
it.I also think that it wouldn't have
changed a lot at the top of the
charts,cause the first ones were there
@^
@t5@f00to stay! I understand that such a
production could take most of their
spare-time,and that it became too
boring to know the results before
counting the charts,as El Cubo
said.Many people tried to take them
over or just try to copy them,but the
official EUROCHARTS were still
there.Maybe they took them too
seriously, and they should have
released less issues a
year.Well,ending this serie will also
stop the charts monopole.I've heard
that many groups are working on new
ones,so a race for fame has
started,and when this article will be
published,we might have been invaded
by clones.The most interesting topic
is to discover who's going to take
them over with a special agreement
from CRUSADERS. So we'll never have
@#
@^
@t5@f00to press anymore the left mousebutton
to start staring at the official
EUROCHARTS,and now that a small part
of our scene was burried, everybody is
in a bad mood and feels like crying
"Please hurry, when are you going to
come back?
